{"id":7522,"date":"2022-06-19T18:51:09","date_gmt":"2022-06-19T18:51:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.libertatevirtute.com\/?p=7522"},"modified":"2022-06-25T19:01:21","modified_gmt":"2022-06-25T19:01:21","slug":"why-i-am-opposed-to-red-flag-laws","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.libertatevirtute.com\/why-i-am-opposed-to-red-flag-laws\/","title":{"rendered":"Why I am Opposed to Red Flag Laws"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure style=\"width: 1456px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/substackcdn.com\/image\/fetch\/w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep\/https%3A%2F%2Fbucketeer-e05bbc84-baa3-437e-9518-adb32be77984.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fc0b44d7d-6d06-4671-977a-df6c031beac0_1615x1188.jpeg?resize=525%2C386&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"See the source image\" width=\"525\" height=\"386\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), the cornerstone of so-called red flag laws.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>No, it\u2019s not due to a view of the Second Amendment that claims the right of every American to own rapid-fire artillery.\u00a0 My opposition to red flag laws stems from government\u2019s inbred incompetence.\u00a0 The more responsibilities are piled onto government, the more the ineptitude overwhelms.\u00a0 It\u2019s the perfect storm for exploitation by sinister political actors.\u00a0 In the confusion, due process and equal application of the laws gets buried under prejudices and arbitrary and capricious actions.\u00a0 Oh, then add civil service protections and unionization for the hirelings in the people\u2019s government and the people\u2019s government quickly becomes a worker soviet.\u00a0 Get the picture?<\/p>\n<p>As proof, and previously mentioned, Democrats demand expanded background checks for gun purchases when recent violations of the existing background checks seldom go to investigation, let alone charges.\u00a0 Also, state gun-enhancements in the commission of crimes get tossed out the window by progressive \u2013 read \u201csoft on crime\u201d \u2013 DA\u2019s enthralled with \u201cequity\u201d, meaning racial proportionality, meaning the race-norming of the numbers on the docket so they don\u2019t exceed the race\u2019s 13% of the population. More succinctly, a form of criminal justice affirmative action is implemented to give \u201cprotected classes\u201d a head start by discarding the weapons charges entirely.\u00a0 Either way, more embellished background checks, expanded rules and bans on difficult-to-define guns and their appurtenances, and new layers of regulations in red flag laws will not translate into safer communities.\u00a0 An already difficult task was made gargantuan for an already difficult-to-manage government workforce.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1456px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/substackcdn.com\/image\/fetch\/w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep\/https%3A%2F%2Fbucketeer-e05bbc84-baa3-437e-9518-adb32be77984.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F36805c97-bde0-4665-9d94-ff291c7fd34d_2400x1846.png?resize=525%2C404&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"404\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Stenographers and typists taking a civil service exam on July 9, 1936.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Don\u2019t think for a moment that hiring more government workers will do the trick.\u00a0 More government workers won\u2019t necessarily mean more work gets done.\u00a0 It\u2019ll just create a larger worker soviet, as California has proven with the CSEA and CTA. It\u2019s a state government of the public employee unions, by the public employee unions, and for the public employee unions.\u00a0 The word \u201ccapture\u201d keeps coming to mind.\u00a0 There\u2019s a reason for the California DMV, or CalTrans (the state transportation agency) for that matter, being a nationwide insult to efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of California, look at what they\u2019ve done to their election laws.\u00a0 It\u2019s more proof that more laws and an explosion in their attendant regulations means more . . . of a mess.\u00a0 While guns and voting are different arenas, if you fumble one, don\u2019t expect a person in their right mind to give you unfettered access to the other.\u00a0 Chaotic elections give to us a clue about the fate of the Second Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>Led by the mantra to \u201ccount every vote\u201d and the rhetoric to fight \u201cvoter suppression\u201d by the poohbahs of the one-party state, laws were passed that can only make your eyes roll.\u00a0 An election system is efficient if results are produced in a timely manner and come with the reasonable expectation that vote totals actually reflect legal, honest-to-God votes.\u00a0 Today, nothing can be further from the truth.\u00a0 In an earlier time, election results were frequently known hours after the polls closed.\u00a0 Only three-quarters of the votes were counted in LA\u2019s June mayoral contest after 5 days.<\/p>\n<p>Many things are awry in California\u2019s election zoo.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a criminal act in the state for a poll worker to ask a person for ID. Yes, a criminal act!\u00a0 They\u2019ve done this as they\u2019ve made it exceedingly difficult to identify ballot misbehavior.\u00a0 To boot, ballots are shotgunned through the mail, a method famous for election shenanigans.\u00a0 My son, a recent California refugee, got two ballots for this June\u2019s primary election: one from Sanders County, Mt., where he now lives, and one from California.\u00a0 The state mailed the absentee ballot to him at his Montana residence (?).\u00a0 He has a Montana driver\u2019s license to prove it.\u00a0 You\u2019d think that someone in the California county clerk\u2019s office would notice.\u00a0 So much for that thought.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 840px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/substackcdn.com\/image\/fetch\/w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep\/https%3A%2F%2Fbucketeer-e05bbc84-baa3-437e-9518-adb32be77984.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fcca89a68-9392-4860-98a7-d70574510101_840x560.jpeg?resize=525%2C350&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"A worker bends over to move ballots from a drop box into gray bags as another worker loads bags into the back of a van\" width=\"525\" height=\"350\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Workers from the Los Angeles County registrar\u2019s office collect ballots from a drop box in Norwalk on Nov. 4. (Irfan Khan \/ Los Angeles Times)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He has no inclination for vote fraud, but can we be certain about others, especially if the system is constructed to make it difficult to detect the chicanery?\u00a0 Remember, this is the party of bail funds for rioters, inciters of public incivility against their opponents, mobs to intimidate the administration of justice, and plotters with friends in the administrative state to hound a duly elected president from pre-election to the four years of post-election.\u00a0 Is this a party that would shrink from pushing the envelope on voting if they have a reasonable expectation of never being caught?\u00a0 If you\u2019re na\u00efve enough to think so, I have some Clark Stanley\u2019s Snake Oil Liniment to sell you.<\/p>\n<p>I can\u2019t prove fraud, few can, because the system is designed to hide it.\u00a0 Ballots, after being scattered through the mail, are picked up by who-knows-who, taken behind closed doors to be marked by God-knows-who, and then collected in bulk by who-knows-who.\u00a0 California in 2016 made it a matter of law to sanction the \u201charvesting\u201d of the vote.\u00a0 Uhhhh, what can go wrong?<\/p>\n<p>In a brief moment of sanity, in a holiday from its usual display of Trump derangement syndrome, the LA Times in 2018 condemned the \u201coverly-permissive ballot collection law\u201d.\u00a0 The Times said the law opens \u201cthe door to coercion and fraud and should be fixed or repealed.\u201d\u00a0 Precisely!<\/p>\n<p>Voter registration with verified identity, eligibility, and address is made into a Keystone Cops\u2019 comedy skit.\u00a0 Moter-voter \u2013 automatic voter registration at the DMV (driver\u2019s license, vehicle registration) \u2013 makes a conduit for prohibited persons such as felons, the underaged, non-residents, and illegal immigrants (the \u201cundocumented\u201d).\u00a0 Unknowingly, or knowingly, they can get swept onto the voter rolls.\u00a0 Remember, the whole system is manned (or womanned, or whatever) by proud SEIU-protected state workers.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/substackcdn.com\/image\/fetch\/w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep\/https%3A%2F%2Fbucketeer-e05bbc84-baa3-437e-9518-adb32be77984.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fbe0fcbd2-bf80-4d4b-aa20-121374534c40_700x468.jpeg?resize=525%2C351&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"See the source image\" width=\"525\" height=\"351\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">SEIU Local 1000 workers from the DMV marching in celebration of Cesar Chavez.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Federal law requires a regular clean-up of the rolls (removal of the ineligible, dead, inactive, or moved), something that California is notoriously delinquent.\u00a0 California hasn\u2019t been removing \u201cinactive\u201d voters from the lists for 20 years, in spite of a Supreme Court reaffirmation of the requirement in 2019 (Husted v.
